Join us for an evening of Open Mic Poetry AND our featured reader, Waqas Khwaja and Franklin Abbott!
Are you a creative, a poet, poetry enthusiast, or simply just curious as to what it's all about? Then this is the event for you! Come and listen OR sign-up to read. Readers have a max of 3 minutes (roughly).
We look forward to hearing our first time readers as well as our seasoned and published poets! Our doors are open to ALL ages and we look forward to having you join us in house.
Our Featured Poets:
Waqas KhwajaÂ
Khwaja has published four collections of poetry, a literary travelogue about his experiences as a fellow of the International Writing Program, University of Iowa, and two edited anthologies of Pakistani literature in translation. He was translation editor and contributor for Modern Poetry from Pakistan, a project supported by a grant from the NEA, and has guest edited special issues on Pakistani literature for Atlanta Review and the Journal of Commonwealth and Postcolonial Literature. Khwaja is the Ellen Douglass Leyburn Professor of English at Agnes Scott College, where he teaches courses in English and Postcolonial literature and in creative writing. Franklin AbbottÂ
Abbott, is the author of 3 anthologies on men and gender, 2 collections of poetry with a 3rd forthcoming and a CD of original songs and poetry called Don't Go Back to Sleep. He has been a psychotherapist in private practice in Atlanta since 1979 and is retiring at the end of the Summer. He lives between Avondale and Decatur in Midway Woods with 2 very curious cats.
